Silly Cow Hot Chocolate

We have gotten about 18 inches of snow in the past week. A foot all in one day yesterday. The high temperature for today was -5, with a windchill of -40. I have never felt cold like this before.

Mr. M and I have been lucky (knock on wood), and have managed to keep our electricity. There are many others in the city who have not, and shelters have been set up all over to give them heat. However, because of the drifting snow, it’s also very unsafe for them to travel. It’s not been a terrific situation for many.

We have spent the last two days having movie marathons and stoking a fire. We don’t get too many days off together with nothing to do, so it’s been a nice break after the busy holiday season.

Mr. M picked up some hot chocolate mix at his store just before Christmas, and it’s been perfect for fighting off the cold. Burnham & Mills makes several different kinds of mixes, but we’ve had Pumpkin and Peppermint Twist. I’m pretty pumpkin’ed out from the fall, so I haven’t had that one yet, but I cannot stop drinking the peppermint one. I’m already through half of a 16 oz bottle of mix!

You can order the mix online from their website, in many different flavors. After we finish these, I want to try some of the others. They aren’t very expensive at all, for as many drinks as you get out of them. $6.00 for a 16 oz bottle, and I use 3 tsp of mix per mug (the recipe calls for 2 tsp). The bottle says you should get 24 servings from that! We got ours at Fresh Market, but Mr. M thought it was just a holiday promotion.

Hope you are all staying warm!

Mrs. M
